The Population Impact of E-Cigarettes in Canada: A Simulation Model

Although e-cigarettes can be a helpful tool in smoking cessation, they can also facilitate smoking among people who were never smokers, especially among young people. Therefore, controversy remains whether e-cigarette use results in a greater benefit at the population level than the harms they may cause. This webinar examined the costs and benefits of e-cigarettes by applying a simulation model that accounts for the changes between products and the differences in relative harm. The speakers discussed how the underlying assumptions of the model drive differences in population impact on health and health care costs and demonstrate how policy can be applied to improve population benefits. Speakers: Michael Chaiton, Anasua Kundu.
