There are many myths surrounding electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). One common myth is that e-cigarettes are completely harmless. While they are generally considered less harmful than traditional cigarettes because they don’t produce tar or many of the toxic chemicals from combustion, e-cigarettes are not without risks. The aerosol can contain harmful substances, and the long-term health effects are still being studied.
Another myth is that e-cigarettes do not help with smoking cessation. In reality, many people have successfully used e-cigarettes to reduce or quit smoking traditional cigarettes. However, the effectiveness can vary, and it’s essential to use them as part of a broader cessation plan. Additionally, concerns remain about e-cigarettes encouraging nicotine use among non-smokers, particularly youth.
Dr. Rakesh Gupta, President & Director of Public Health, Strategic Institute for Public Health Education & Research (SIPHER), explains to us the myths and facts around the usage of electronic cigarettes.
