Can electronic cigarettes help you stop smoking and are they safe for this purpose?
Newly updated Cochrane evidence, led by Jamie Hartmann-Boyce, from the Cochrane Tobacco Addiction Group, finds that there is moderate‐certainty evidence that e-cigarettes with nicotine increase quit rates compared to those without. There is also evidence comparing nicotine e-cigarettes with usual care/no treatment that suggests benefit, but is less certain.
More studies are needed to confirm the effect size.
